Press Forward, the $500 million movement to reimagine local news, launched its first open call for funding focused on addressing the long-standing inequities in journalistic coverage of underserved communities. News outlets addressing those coverage gaps, with a budget under $1 million, are eligible to apply for initial general operating grants of $100,000 that will be awarded to more than 100 newsrooms. Applications will remain open through June 12, 2024. These inaugural grants–and a second open call–will be announced in the fall.
